With Bellevue LifeSpring’s annual Step Up to the Plate Benefit Luncheon just around the corner, we’ve been receiving this question:
“So, what exactly is a table captain?”
For us, table captains are the people, the stories and the hearts behind our organization, stepping up on behalf of Bellevue’s children and inspiring others to do the same.
Karin Dashen is a longtime circle member, volunteer and has served as table captain chair for the last eight luncheons. We asked Karin to tell us what being a table captain means:
“Table captains are the backbone of the luncheon. They drive attendance and without them, Bellevue LifeSpring would be unable to spread the message of what it does for the community.”
What Does a Table Captain Do?
- Invite: Each table captain hosts a table (or tables) of 10 guests – friends, family, co-workers, business partners, vendors, neighbors, fellow parents – anyone who wants to see Bellevue and its children to thrive.
- Stay Connected: We all need reminders from time to time – Bellevue LifeSpring can help! Direct your guests to our Facebook page for event updates and we’ll send them a reminder email before the big day.
- Host: At the luncheon, arrive a little early to sip wine and shop at our pop-up Thrift Culture display and answer any questions your guests may have. During the program, sit back and be inspired to make an impact with them!
- The Next Step: Encourage your guests to get more involved – invite them to attend a circle meeting, volunteer or join us for Uncork the Night: A Celebration of Wine and Giving in the fall.
The Impact of a Table
Every individual at every table plays a vital role in the success of the luncheon and Bellevue LifeSpring’s ability to serve the 3,500+ children living in poverty in Bellevue.
If each guest at your table of ten commits to making a gift, your collective impact could mean:
- $1,000: Six children starting the school year with new clothing and confidence through Clothes-4-Kids.
- $2,500: One hundred Breaktime-Mealtime grocery store vouchers for students who would otherwise go hungry during school breaks.
- $5,000: Rent assistance for four families in crisis to prevent them from being evicted from their homes.
- $10,000: Five college scholarships for students to continue their education toward a living wage job.
There’s more than one way to give. The impact of your table could also be:
- A volunteer shift at Thrift Culture in Bellevue Square.
- A snack drive, inspired by stories from students who would go hungry without your support.
- Nine new voices speaking out about poverty in Bellevue.
