Bellevue LifeSpring’s goal for the New Year is to ensure no Bellevue child experiences food or housing insecurity. We remain resolute in this goal. However, the growing number of children facing crises in our community means this goal is becoming more challenging to achieve.
The number of Bellevue students enrolled in their school’s free and reduced lunch program is the highest it’s been in 10 years. Over 21% of the Bellevue School District student population is experiencing food insecurity. The number of students experiencing houselessness has increased to 413 children.
While these numbers are anything but encouraging, we still hold on to hope because of community members like you. Here are three ideas for your New Year’s goals that will make a positive impact on Bellevue kids:
Make “Giving Where You Live” Your 2023 Resolution
- Become a Family Advocate Volunteer at the Bellevue Family Hub: Join a truly impactful volunteer team that supports our Bellevue Family Hub. The Hub is a resource center for Bellevue School District students and families located at Highland Middle School. Bellevue LifeSpring Family Advocate Volunteers help welcome and provide personal guidance to families who come to the Hub to seek support with basic needs like food, clothing, emergency rent support, and more. - Become a Bellevue LifeSpring Circle Member: You can bring a social aspect to your philanthropy and join a Bellevue LifeSpring Membership Circle. As a circle member, you are part of a large network of friends and volunteers that truly make a difference in the lives of Bellevue children. We have seven Bellevue LifeSpring membership circles: Clemmie Evans Circle, Enatai Circle, Fairweather Circle, Hunts Point Circle, Yarrow Point Circle, One Circle, and the Bellevue Lifespring Youth Council. - Commit to a monthly investment: While one-time donations are vital to achieving our goal, ongoing investments in our community will provide year-round support for Bellevue kids. Determine a monthly amount you feel comfortable with and commit to giving today.
This year let’s partner to achieve what is possible if we join forces. Let’s work together to build a Bellevue where all children grow up happy and healthy, and no child has to wonder where their next meal will come from. Let’s build a Bellevue where every student graduates and has access to post-secondary education. A Bellevue where every parent can afford their rent without fear of eviction.
