Every family’s path to stability looks different. For some, it means securing safe and consistent housing. For others, it’s finding a new job, finishing school, or building a stronger financial foundation.
What every family shares, however, is the need for someone in their corner. Someone who listens, understands, and walks alongside them toward their goals. That’s exactly what Bellevue LifeSpring’s new Family Support Program was built to do.
Launched in response to the evolving needs of our community, the Family Support Program pairs families one-on-one with a dedicated Family Support Administrator to move beyond immediate needs and focus on long-term self-sufficiency.
“Our Family Support Administrators partner with parents to define their own vision of success and build a personalized plan to get there,” shared Programs Manager Lucy Garcia. “Every family’s experience, culture, language, and story is honored every step of the way.”
After a successful pilot that helped shape and refine the program’s approach, Bellevue LifeSpring is now partnering with 17 families in the program. This week, we’re thrilled to celebrate a major milestone: two parents have officially graduated from the program. Their success is a powerful testament to what becomes possible when families are met with trust, tailored support, and the tools they need to thrive.
How It Works
Enrollment in the Family Support Program is open to families who are ready to take that next step. Once enrolled, participants meet consistently with their dedicated Family Support Administrator for 6 to 12 months, building a relationship grounded in trust and care. Each session is an opportunity to track progress, problem-solve obstacles, and keep momentum going.
The program meets families where they need support the most. Areas of focus include career building (such as resume writing, job applications, and interview prep), financial education (such as creating budgets, learning tools to manage income, and building stronger financial habits), housing stability (such as applying for affordable housing and guidance on the rental application process), applying for community services (such as help finding benefits and connection with local resources), and understanding legal rights (such as learning about tenant rights and understanding current immigrations policies).
“Families are in the driver’s seat throughout their time with us,” explained Lucy. “The role of our team of Family Support Administrators is to provide the tools, connections, and encouragement needed to help them get there.”
To qualify, families must have at least one child under 18, reside within the Bellevue School District boundaries, and have a household income at or below 60% of the Area Median Income.
The Impact Is Clear
“The results from our pilot program speak for themselves, and the story they tell is one of remarkable transformation,” said Lucy. “When the nine pilot families first came to us, nearly half were at risk of experiencing homelessness. By the six-month mark, every single one of them was in stable housing.”
That shift alone is profound, but it was just the beginning. Across nearly every measure of stability, families made meaningful strides. Employment climbed from 44% to 78%. Enrollment in education more than doubled, rising from 22% to 56%.
Perhaps most striking: the median household income increased by 53% across all nine families. At the start of the program, not a single family felt confident in their financial planning. Six months later, 44% did, and that number continues to grow. Families also reported gains in their ability to navigate legal systems and their access to community resources.
Ultimately, 100% of the families in our pilot program increased their self-sufficiency. That’s not a coincidence; it’s what happens when families are met with consistent, personalized support and the belief that they are capable of defining and achieving their own success.
Behind every data point is a real family with a real story, and in their own words, participants captured what the program meant to them far better than any statistic can:
“We are really happy with the program. I wish that more people could benefit from it. What helped me the most was overcoming my fears. I felt more confident. I used to be very insecure about seeking help.”- Silvia
“I will never forget when you first told me about this program and explained that its purpose was to help families discover who they are and what they are capable of. That conversation changed everything because at the time I didn’t believe I could find a job.” -Nincy
“My life has changed in a wonderful way” – Andrea
These voices are the heart of the Family Support Program, and they are the reason we are proud to be expanding it today with the generosity of our community.
Bellevue LifeSpring has always prided itself on its ability to pivot and adapt to changing needs in our community. Now more than ever, families need full-circle support. The Family Support Program reflects our commitment to walking alongside families, not just in moments of crisis, but throughout their journey toward stability and self-sufficiency.
