Snack Packs Needed to Prevent Hunger for Bellevue Kids!
Tuesday, October 5, 2021
Now that school is back in session, staff at the school district are already requesting snack packs for students that don’t get breakfast at home or need a snack to take home for dinner. We know it’s hard to focus on an empty stomach. You can help! Snack packs help ensure students have the nutrition they need for a successful school day.
Bellevue community members have stepped up to collect, package and deliver much-needed snack packs directly to schools in need within the Bellevue School District. Recently, the Bellevue Kiwanis Club and Equinox Business Law Group hosted snack pack drives and donated hundreds of snack packs for Bellevue students!
Plan Your Drive!
Snack packs are individually packaged, kid-friendly snacks for children that may miss breakfast, feel hungry during the day or are not getting dinner at home. Snack packs help students focus in the classroom or during breaks from school.
Hosting a snack pack drive is easy! Below you will find a few simple steps and ideas on how to get started.
Organize and collect – First, decide where and when you will collect snacks, along with the time and duration of the drive. Will your drive be one day? Or is the collection ongoing over a period of time? Here are a few different ways you can organize a collection:
- Contact friends, family, and community to support your drive and make a snack donation.
- Set up collection boxes at local businesses, your workplace, faith centers, etc.
- Contact your local grocery store and ask permission to set up a table outside to collect donations as people shop. Give shoppers the list below and try a busy Saturday when lots of people are out shopping.
- Fruit and/or veggie sauce packs
- Dried fruit
- Fruit snacks
- Goldfish crackers
- Instant oatmeal
- Snack bars (granola, cereal, etc.)
- Sunflower seeds
- Fruit cups
Spread the word – Sharing that you are hosting a collection drive with others is a great way to gather donations, boost energy surrounding your event or even inspire others to follow in your footsteps. You can use social media, email, or even create flyers to pass out or hang at local businesses. Let us know so we can help spread the word.
Assemble and personalize – Once you have successfully collected the snacks, it’s time to pack them in brown paper bags. Add a personal touch to the snack packs and create a colorful card with a positive message and attach it to the bag. When hosting a snack pack get-together with your family and friends, cards are a fun and meaningful addition to the process.
